Session Name: Implementing DevOps in the Government Context
In April 2017, a group of Air Force leaders met in San Francisco with a shared goal: find a way to fundamentally transform how the U.S. Air Force sources and delivers software at scale to meet the warfighters’ unique requirements. They knew navigating this daunting journey would require smuggling new concepts, processes, and solutions into an antiquated bureaucracy. Thus Kessel Run was built, named after the Star Wars character Han Solo’s famed story of navigating the smuggling route in less than 12 parsecs.
Colonel Brian Beachkofski, Commander, Detachment 12, AFLCMC (Kessel Run) will share his insights and lessons learned on practicing DevOps within the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense (DoD). Attendees will learn what makes Kessel Run unique and how its mission to replace antiquated systems with cutting edge digital solutions is now the gold standard across the federal government.
